Anatoly Chernishov was born in 1947 in Eberswald, East Germany. His family moved back to Soviet Union when he was 2 years old. He studied and graduated (1965 – 1970) with a Master of Fine Arts with Honors from the Tbilisi State Academy of the Arts in Tbilisi, Georgia, USSR. Right after college Anatoly established himself in USSR as a promising young artist.
From 1970 to 1978 Chernishov’s art was shown in exhibitions, museums and galleries in the Soviet Union. The State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, galleries in Tbilisi, Moscow, Leningrad, Riga, and Kiev – all exhibited his work. But Anatoly has had bigger ambitions for his work.
He came to the United States in 1978 in search of creative freedom, leaving behind his family, not knowing if he would see them again. After settling in Bronx, NY, he has worked as a freelance artist and illustrator. In 1988 Anatoly, with some of his family settled in Mahwah, NJ working out of his home studio and concentrating on painting portraits.
Painting portraits has been Anatoly’s passion, since he was about 10 years old. After moving to NJ he continues to master new techniques and textures in several media, including oil, acrylic, pastel and charcoals. He now concentrates on painting commission portraits.
Anatoly Chernishov’s works are in private and public collections in the USA, Russia, Latvia, Republic of Georgia and Germany.
